Added value of the cooperation : enhancing the output of a research projet, exploring the application of aptamer technology for screening purposes

Summary of the proposal : The Barcelona laboratory of Dr Ceron is conducting genetics studies on lsm genes in C. elegans. To provide statistical power to the analysis of in vivo fluorescent reporter constructs generated by that team they need a quantitative method of measurement of gene expression. The Dupuy team (IECB, Bordeaux) is equipped with a COPAS-Profiler that allows high-throughput fluorescent measurement in live nematodes. By joining the Bordeaux site for a period of 4 months Eric Cornes (Idibell, Barcelona) will tremendously advance his studies regarding the regulation of lsm genes in vivo. In complement to this study this time passed in Bordeaux will allow to investigate the potential for a collaborative project with the company Novaptech who specialize in identifying aptamers able to interact with natural proteins. LSMs being involved in RNA processing and metabolism it is of interest to characterize the precise mechanisms of interaction between the LSM complex and RNA molecules.
